Beating The Heat with Brunch Menu at St. Ali Jakarta.

As most countries experience a colder weather in December, Australia has their Summer. With a hot weather, it’s only appropriate for Australian to enjoy some food that can ‘beat the heat’.

St. Ali Jakarta (along with the one in Australia) is having a seasonal Brunch menu with a list of mouth-watering selections. I got lucky to be one that tasted them early this December (you would know if you followed my Instagram).

So, anyway, let’s jump to see what St. Ali presented to us.

# Bircher Muesli (Veg)
ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA
Starting strong with a super refreshing plate (and it looks so pretty!), it’s Bircher Muesli that is consisted of St. Ali’s bircher, Balinese long pepper, poached stone fruit, blueberries, lime labneh, and basil seed syrup. Combining all the ingredients, the sensation was blasting in the mouth and this first dish could certainly beat the heat!

# Quinoa Pudding (Vegan; Gluten-Free)

Quinoa Pudding came next, another beautifully-plated dish. It apparently and successfully pleased both my eyes and my tongue. The vanilla & maple quinoa pudding was certainly refreshing with delicious & sweet ending. The shaved coconut and berries were the ones that brought texture to the whole dish. I can certainly enjoy this dish every morning.

# Squash & Pumpkin (Paleo)
ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA
This brunch is consisted of roasted kabocha squash, grains and seeds, feta cheese, mixed leave, barley.
Reading the name pumpkin might make some people’s eyes twitch, including mine. I never really like pumpkin, but this Squash & Pumpkin looked different, so I gave it a go anyway. The taste was pretty good, far better than my negative expectation. The roasted kabocha squash had a creamy-ish texture and smoky flavour. With the extra grains, seeds, barley and feta cheese, it tasted pretty interesting, having a savoury and sweet combo.

# Green Hummus Bowl (Paleo)
ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA
Probably the most skippable dish in the entire brunch menu. But well well well, it turned out to be freaking good! Well, I said that this Green Hummus Bowl was skippable because it is consisted of Garbanzo bean, spinach hummus, broccoli, asparagus, roasted baby carrots, grains and seeds. The ingredients screamed “BORING!!” to me super loudly. Then, I tried it and DANG! it was so good! I did not know what Glo and her team put in this greeny boring dish, but truly, the nutty texture, the sweet-ish taste and the complex flavour had this on-point sensation in the mouth. I bet you who hate veggie will be skeptical, but you really have to try this!

# Daddy 2.0
Daddy 2.0 ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA
St. Ali had this menu before, but this time around, big ‘Daddy’ received an upgrade. Daddy 2.0 is a simple combination of goodness. From the milk bun, ham hock, seeded mustard terrine to poached egg and hollandaise sauce, everything was blended well. Oh, the freaking ham hock was so dreamy and juicy, and with the creamy poached egg and hollandaise sauce, this ‘Daddy’ turned out to be a bad-ass.

# Lamb Leg
ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA
One of the really best dishes I had that day. The lamb leg was super tender, as expected. It was a result of their method of cooking. And not only that, there were this rich butternut squash puree and roasted, pickled lime that made the dish as whole. Just scrumptious!

# Brisket & Eggs
ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA
To be honest, this dish was the weakest amongst all ‘strong’ dishes. Don’t get me wrong, it was really good. The brisket was pretty much a super tender brisket since it was slow-braised to this state. But what I think was missing, is probably the connection between this superior brisket and the simple fried eggs (along with cippollini onion, cherry tomatoes, and fried parsley). Anyway, some people will have different opinions, so don’t lemme stop you from trying this dish!

# Chocolate Cherry Bar (Vegan; Gluten-Free)
ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA

ST. ALI JAKARTA
The ultimate dessert, the one and only vegan and gluten free Chocolate Cherry Bar. Gosh, this was like the finest of all, the beauty that stole the show. It was hearty, rich with its vegan chocolate and there is no refined sugar in it. This Chocolate Cherry Bar is consisted of vegan chocolate, cherry, beetroot gel, coconut, and dried cranberries, and some each component plays different role, creating this guilt-free dessert. Well, if we needed to put “scrumptious” into dessert, this was what it should be.

‘Beat The Heat’ brunch menu selections were really good, in my honest opinion. I think that St. Ali’s team did one hell of a job in creating the list of summer brunch menu. I thoroughly enjoyed the brunch and I’ve come to a conclusion. With their coffee, St.-freaking-Ali will be my first choice when some serious heat is striking!
