The Infamous Nasi Pedas Bu Andika.

November 2012.
Bali.

I bet most people who have ever visited Bali will know the name of Bu Andika. Yes, it’s not just a random emak-emak of some sort, but it is a humble down to earth dining place that offers you a simple delicious meal. It’s well known as Nasi Pedas Bu Andika. By the name of it, you will know that the food offer to you is authentic Indonesian food.

As expected, when I had the chance to visit the place, the place was a very simple earthy place, house-like. But, it’s just real packed with hungry patrons queueing in a messy way for the name of food. Well, honestly I hate to queue in  an unorganised queueing line. Anyone could just cut your line and some people just don’t care with the rules. But I had put this place on my must-visit place, so I queued anyway.

After some hardcore strings of pushing, pulling hairs and scratching (honestly it’s not that bad..), we finally got in the front line. Do not expect a welcome smile or even warm hug, as they are too busy preparing meals for queueing patrons. After asking for a quick recommendation, I ordered and I quickly got my meal. Getting a table was easy as most people just decided to take-away home.

Here was my lunch. IDR 25 k for some sweet crispy tempeh (soybean-based), abon ayam (chicken floss), spicy chicken and shredded chayote. Here, name of the food presented is not important, as you can just point at the food you wish to have and there it is on your steamed rice.

My lunch was kinda cheap though. The cheapest so far, with only 25 k for the whole dish. But taste-wise, it didn’t satisfy me that much, as I expected more from the big name. The floss and crispy tempe were great, the chicken was okay, and the sambal (chilli paste) was just.. hot, with no other sophisticated attractions in taste. Overall, it was just an average ‘nasi rames’ with a very hot sambal.

Well, if you simply love hot (and spicy) or pungent food, the food here might suit you though. 🙂

As an additional information, I heard (from our driver that time) that it is open for 24 hours. Maybe when you’re hungry in the middle of the night, you can just drop by.
