The Second Wave. Food Fighters.

Last year, I’ve posted a review about the newly opened Food Fighters at that moment. And with its lovely concept, I fell in love with the place. Just last December, I visited the place again, and apparently for this time, I tried different food to enrich my experience.

Oh, I was accompanied by my favourite blogger, Cindy, the author of Urukyu (which I bet you are familiar with) and her husband, Bang Jali! It was such a joy having them accompanied my lunch. It was fun fun fun!

Back to business, almost every tenant had slightly changed their menu selections, by adding or cutting some menus for the sake of customers’ satisfaction. I also was told that there were some additional tenants for temporary period, and the goal was to rotate some of the selections, in hope to avoid complete repetition. For example, during my visit, there was a tenant, Kantin SD, selling old-time ‘jajanan’ with their signature ‘kue cubit’ (bite-size pancake ala Indonesia).

So, without much explanations, let’s just review the food.

From the in-house, they had this new fancy drinks called Smokigori (IDR 35 k), with options of red, blue and green. The drinks were presented in a really fun way, with chilling smokes emerging from the bottom bowl. We had the green and blue ones, and both were pretty much the same. Oh, they were very instagenic.

# KOPI PASAR

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai
My favourite tenant is always this humble coffee place. By that time, they were still developing a new breed of coffee made with sound. Quite strange right, and at that moment, I didn’t even think it was possible to do such thing. It’s written as Alchemy (IDR 50 k) with Sunda Arumanis Water Music and it was bottled in a whisky-shaped bottle, or some might simply recognize as ‘botol obat batuk’ (cough syrup bottle) 😛 But I loved the way it looked, somehow, sellable. Unfortunately, it was written on the label, the name of a not-so-favourite singer, Kanye West. *sigh* Nonetheless, I loved the drink! It’s somehow very light and tasted quite fragrant. Since I’m not a heavy black coffee drinker, it suited me very well.

Oh, here’s a bottle of Yeti (IDR 50 k) that Cindy brought home that day.

# JUDAS KITCHEN

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

Who loves healthy stuff? Judas Kitchen had a refreshing blended juice named Mango Tango (IDR 30-35 k). Of course, with a taste of refreshing mango, it managed to steal my heart.

# YIPIKO WINGS

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

Chicken wings for all! Las time, I didn’t get to try this, so, I didn’t skip these fancy wings this time. We chose Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings (IDR 35 k). First impression, the wings were a bit dried. But somehow, it was still enjoyable with the cheesy garlicky parmesan.

# PASTA BONARA

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

This is definitely for pasta lover. Pasta Bonara actually had one new menu at the time, Pasta Salted Egg & Prawns (IDR 35 k). But then, it was sold out. So we tried the Pasta with Funghi Sauce (IDR 30 k). This dish will actually make mushroom-lovers freak out. The mushroom was generous, and it tasted really fragrant.

# BLACK JACK

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

Last time, I tried their Black Jack Burger which was just okay, but not their Black Magic Noodle (IDR 45 k). This time around, we tried the noodle and actually really loved it! The black noodle was real good, with thick chewy texture. The spices used were right, a tad spicy and extra delicious with its rica chicken (ayam rica). We were so excited with this relish noodle and finished the bowl real quick.

# SATE BUMBU OMA / OMA’s KITCHEN

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

Remains as my one of my most favourites, Sate Bumbu Oma did another good job. This time, we had the Chicken Satay (IDR 33 k/portion). I loved their way of using spices as they made the chicken satay really good to eat. It was a complication of (mostly) sweet, spicy and refreshingly sour.

# ZUCKER WAFFLE

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

Another favourite. This time, we had the Grilled Chicken Waffle (IDR 40 k). Unsurprisingly, the Chicken Waffle was delicious. The grilled chicken was well-seasoned and smoky, just the way I liked it. With the tropical pineapple slice and extra chili, the Chicken Waffle became an instant crush.

# PAPRICANO & SLOPPY BRO

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

Coming next was from the Mexican joint, and here was the Burrito (IDR 45 k)! This dish is actually a large tortilla rolled with ground beef, french fries, sour cream, jalapeno, baked beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, cheddar cheese & lettuce. This Mexican signature cuisine was lovely and I loved it. It definitely presented as a balance food, with enough veggie and meat. I approve!

# MARTABAK FACTORY

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

A new tenant at that time and this brought the goodness of the classic favourite, Martabak! The good thing is, you don’t have to actually order the big size martabak if you are just alone or with a friend. You can get the personal size, with the same goodness! We tried the Mini Oreo (IDR 18 k) and Mini Cheese Berry (IDR 20 k). Both were quite nice and most likely, will be a perfect snack addition for you!

# KANTIN SD

Food Fighter Indonesia - Melawai

Pinched Cake a.k.a Kue Cubit is undoubtedly our childhood favourite. As it emerged again last year with possible twists, Kantin SD joined the hype and presented their own Kue Cubit (IDR 20 k/portion and additional IDR 3 k/topping). We had the Red Velvet and Chocolate, both in half-cooked doneness. Frankly, I still loved the classic version without all the gimmick. I just couldn’t get the nostalgic feel (and taste) out of these cuties.

With all the food we had, I was definitely happy. Not everything was great but that’s the fun element of this concept. It’s like you are gambling for a hit and miss, and I do think that’s the true essence.

So, fancy some delicious games?
