A quick visit at Le Cafe Gourmand.

Wandering without any clear destinations to visit in South Jakarta is fun! Yes, how so? South Jakarta is seriously one of that certain areas where you will not afraid of getting starved* (*terms and conditions applied = as long as you have money) 😉

I made a brief visit Le Cafe Gourmand several weeks ago, just because we happened to pass by and saw a lot of cars parking in front of the place. When a flower is swarming with bees, it certainly is a sweet sweet one right? By that kind of thinking alone, we dropped by and had some quality time there.

Le Cafe Gourmand is certainly a sweet place. By the exterior alone, I was certain I was going to love the place. The french touch is surely inviting, stating loudly that it would be one of that cafes which have the ability to make you stay all day long. A step inside, we could see the simple decor, with some arts hanging around the walls. The composition of the decorations were well-placed, making the interior lovely in the eye. Not to mention the deeper area inside where it serves as the heart of Le Cafe Gourmand. You can even see the beautifully painted wall inside, where the lighting is also at its best. I instantly knew that the seats there are the favourite seats where people can have the freedom of good endless selfie! 😀 We didn’t get the seat there though and we didn’t mind, so we had a seat on the front room, where we could get a more quiet ambiance and just drown in our daydreaming hobby.

The waitress who served us was nice. We took our seats and ordered the recommended Croque and had a cup of Half & Half. We were also told that we could order the pastries or ice cream on the spot. So that was what I exactly did. I saw many mouth-watering pastries and cakes, but I resisted the temptation (since we were going to about 4 other places to eat again) and went to the next corner, the Ice Cream corner! Almost everyone in the room was holding either a cone of colourful ice cream or a cup. After battling for what flavour to try, I decided to go on with the green one. Matcha. The cone itself has many colours to choose from.

# Half & Half (IDR 46 k)

Half & Half is actually a glass of cold mixed chocolate liquid and coffee. I wanted this because I thought nothing could go wrong with these combinations. When it was served, the appearance was lovely, as it was served in a beautiful “illy” glass. But when I took a sip (after stirring), I found the drink strange, unlike what I expected. The chocolate was surely there, at the bottom, and the thick texture explained that the chocolate was going to be lovely. However, I really think the coffee was way to acidic and it was so overwhelming, I barely tasted the chocolate liquid. I noticed that it was also served under average temperature, so I thought that adding ice might help a bit. I asked the waitress who was passing by at that moment, and requested some ice. Apparently, she told me that there was some trouble with their kitchen, something about the ice maker not working correctly. She apologised sincerely and we understood. But the drink, we couldn’t finish it at all.

# Croque Madame (IDR 67.5 k)

This one is the classic croque, a smoked/grilled ham and cheese sandwich, with a sunny side up as an added bonus. The appearance was classic, and it was served with some chips and greens. The taste itself was delicious, but it was pretty simple, as expected. The hand and cheese were the main show there. The chips? They were lovely.

# 1 Scoop of Matcha Ice Cream (IDR 35 k)

This one was thumbs up. The ice cream was the certainly the main highlight of Le Cafe Gourmand. The options of flavours were many and every flavour was intriguing to the mind. I wanted the Salted Caramel, the Tiramisu, and all others. But eventually, the Matcha won my heart. I’d been craving for something matcha-ish. I got to choose the cone too, and I chose red. Red and green sounded perfect together.

Taste-wise, it’s truly heavenly. The matcha ice cream stood out like a real champion and the combination of the sweetness and the bitter-end (the unique characteristic of green tea) was unforgettable. The cone itself was really good. It didn’t just serve as a “cone”, it served as an equal companion that made the whole “joy ride” joyful.

Le Cafe Gourmand is certainly one of a kind. It has that the “it” factor that will keep on gaining patrons. The casual french ambiance, the comfy seats, the pastries and ice cream, the warm service, and even the coffee (which I should still try next time). After the visit, I browsed around and found that actually a lot of coffee lovers recommended the coffee here. My drink that time might be bad (for me), but I haven’t lost faith! Maybe it was a bad timing, or maybe I ordered the wrong beverage. But I will still come to Le Cafe Gourmand. For every other good thing inside.

Ciao!
