Tsurukamedou Ramen. Rich, Thick and Savoury Tonkotsu Ramen.

It’s been quite sometimes since I heard about a phenomenal ramen joint in Green Ville, West Jakarta named Tsurukamedou Ramen. Positive buzzes about this hidden gem were everywhere, especially during the ramen “renaissance” period in Jakarta.

I didn’t have much time to venture and eat out since about a year ago, so this past holiday, I was using my time all out.

Post-Idul Fitri, I went there to have my brunch, knowing that they were still open for business. The place was easy to find. We arrived there at 11.30 noon and there were only several patrons dining inside. The waiters greeted us nicely.

The interior is simple. Nothing really new and it’s expected for a ramen house. Well, people are not here for the comfy ambiance. They are mostly here for the ramen and the ramen alone. That’s the ultimate goal. I was here for that purpose as well.

To shorten up, I ordered the Tonkotsu Shisen Chashu Ramen. It’s the most recommended ramen there. I also heard the Chahan was so good, so I was intrigued to have a taste of it.

# Tonkotsu Shisen Chashu Ramen (IDR 65 k)

It was served just in a few minutes. The broth was smoking’ hot, and it looked drop dead gorgeous. The slices of chashu were invitingly placed on the side of the upper bowl. The spicy oil was floating around and the thick texture were appetising. I am a sucker when it comes to thick and rich tonkotsu broth. This one killed it. But firstly, I should say that in my humble opinion, this is not the best ramen in Jakarta. Why? Ramen(s) that I encountered all this time, somehow have their own places in my heart. I can’t seem to compare them apple to apple since they shows different level of ramen-related ‘variables’. In this case, the ramen was delicious, really. It had this bouncy-ish noodles, melt-in-the-mouth slices of chashu, and the thick creamy broth with rich collagen and bold (but not overwhelming) flavour. I can actually say it had this perfect balance of every single variable needed for a tonkotsu ramen. But in some occasions, I prefer a much bolder version of tonkotsu ramen, and I have other ramen in mind. In other words, the ramen won my heart, but not on the top spot. Still, it’s very recommended.

Oh, and the extra tamago (IDR 8 k), a soft boiled egg, was amazing!

# Buta Chahan (IDR 32 k)

Buta is pork, chahan is fried rice. Porky fried rice is the best. I was never really impressed by any chahan. Honestly, I found Indonesian fried rice much more appetising with richer flavour and spices. This however, changed my mind. The buta chahas was superb. The dull appearance actually even had me ew-ed for a sec (like seriously saying ew.. :D). But don’t judge the book by the cover, the buta chahan was sooo good. It had the lingering bold taste that left me insatiable. The pork chopped every here and there made it even more delicious. It is just like the x-factor show. The winner might not have a good look or charming attitude, but somehow, he/she just has the X factor. Okay, enough of my dramatic explanation!

Free stuff on da house! 😉

So, all in all, Tsurukamedou Ramen is a very recommended ramen joint. I do not understand in why the owner decided to open it in Green Ville. It might be a famous culinary area, but I just think that some places in the North Jakarta such as Kelapa Gading or Pantai Indah Kapuk would suit it better in terms of luring more patrons, especially since the ramen is already ‘maknyus’. 😉

FoodVenturers, I officially recommend you this ramen joint, especially if you are one of the tonkotsu ramen lovers. Imagine the thick and rich creamy broth, with perfect umami. Enuf said. So, just go eat and go mad!
