Serious Pork Feast at BUNS & MEAT.

One of the best additions you can find in the restaurant-flooded Pantai Indah Kapuk is Buns & Meat.

Buns & Meat opened on 7th May 2016 and is originally from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It has gained quite a reputation there and it is said to have been listed in the Food Advisor under many categories, some of which are Best Restaurants and Best Burgers in KL. Due to the increasing popularity, Buns & Meat decided to open an outlet here, in Jakarta.

With a chance to pay a visit, we came here with nothing to expect. But heck they did surprise us. How’s not? We had eaten a lot before our visit, from having our brunch at Bakmi Aloi, and visited Shirayuki for their Street Food menu, so we were there at Buns & Meat in quite a full stomach. Everything that comes in a full stomach, will just be bland, and make us feel bloated. This is a different story. All the dishes we tried, were simply out-of-this-place good! Nothing we had was bad, not even near. More about that below though.

Interior-wise, Buns & Meat is beautiful. The window bar table, the seats and paints are well-thought. I’m sure you will also love their place, especially the front side of the room which is showered by natural day-light. One downside that we experienced was the hot and humid temperature, due to their glass-dominant interior in PIK area! The good thing is, they promised to work on that issue and in fact, they had already planned tinting their window and glass roofs, and hoped to have them done by a week or so. By tinting the glass, the direct heat of the sun will be filtered, and the temperature will not be as hot. So, problem solved!

We need to talk about their AWESOME PORK FEAST!

# Pulled Pork Fries (IDR 40 k)
You’ll never find a generous amount of fries on a bowl with only IDR 40 k! Not to mention the finger-licking good pulled pork which is covered by delicious sauce! We honestly couldn’t finish this all, not because it was’t good, but it was a lot for just the two of us. We just made sure all the pulled pork and its barbecue+honey sauce were cleanly devoured.

# Char Siew (IDR 65 k)
I frowned when I knew they served char view just because I thought they’re more west-oriented-style restaurant. Char Siew is pretty oriental to me, then oh, I think about their KL counterpart. I bet it’s because of their Malaysian root. Then we tried it. Hell, yeah, they actually made what was the best Char Siew we ever had. The char siew meat was tasty and succulently tender. Oh, you really need to order this when you visit Buns & Meat!

# Deep Fried Roasted Pork Belly & Stir Fried Roasted Pork Belly in Special House Sauce Combination (IDR 65 k)
Damn, these twins were sinfully delish! The original Deep Fried Roasted Pork Belly was top notch, crunchy and super good. You can dip this in their special asian-style chili dipping and taste the asian guilty pleasure spot on. Well, the Stir Fried Roasted Pork Belly in Special House was equally convincing in making me drool! The chunks of pork belly were coated in special sweet and savoury sauce with a twist of spices. It’s really hard to choose between these two, but if the world was doomed, and I had to choose which pork belly that I would live with for the rest of my life, I picked the original! There you have it!

# The Runny Mess (IDR 79 k)
Made of sinfully sexy layers, The Runny Mess consists of home-made buns (yes, they make the buns themselves!), thick pork patty, crispy gorgeous bacon, poached egg with perfect melting yolk, and luscious hollandaise sauce. Match them up with some fries and I’m in love! The best part of the burger? Everything, really! Just BIG LOVE.

# Orange Mocha (IDR 33 k)
A signature drink of Buns & Meat. It’s a good combination of orange, coffee and chocolate. If you like something more casual, refreshing and fragrant for coffee beverages, this will be a good fit.

As the food that I tried turned out to be really really good, the prices are more on the reasonable side. Oh, if you dare, try the Porkzilla Burger! Imagine when Godzilla, and this is the Burger’s counterpart!

Well, none of my praise will make you believe how I love this new ‘kid’ on the block, but you can go there and prove it yourself.

PS. People often ask me about what restaurants to visit in PIK area. I always told them a few that I can proudly recommend. A few, not many. Now, I can happily add Buns & Meat on the list!
