D-I-Y Buffet Dinner at Kushiya Monogatari.

Just last night, I attended an event held by Kushiya Monogatari in Central Park Mall. It’s said to be a blogger union and it turned out to be a big party with many bloggers and instagrammers. I just didn’t expect to meet so many people at once and it was hard to keep track on who is who, but it was fun anyway and the evening was quite pleasing.

Let’s talk about Kushiya Monogatari. Have you ever heard about Kushiya? If you happened to be one of the people who visited AEON MALL quite often, you might have noticed a Japanese restaurant with woody themes, crowded patrons, and deep fryer on each and every table. You might also notice a station in the middle of the area with seducing chocolate fountain. Yeah, that’s the Kushiya Monogatari that I am talking about.

Now, you can find this unique-themed Do-It-Yourself Buffet Style restaurant  at the LG level in Central Park Mall. Excited?

Kushiya Monogatari, as complicated as the pronunciation can be, is not a complicated restaurant after all. The restaurant is offering a distinctive dining experience with fun activities such as frying your own favourite skewers and decorating your own ice cream. Kushiya has equipped each of their tables with a deep fryer. The variety of available skewers will be available at the corner of the room, chilled under appropriate temperature to maintain its quality and freshness. Some of the available skewers are chicken with enoki, beef with enoki, fish fillet, squid, fish ball, shrimp, beef, mushroom, leek, takoyaki, mini taiyaki and a lot more. After taking the desired skewers, get back to the table and get ready for the main fun.

Batter and panko (bread crumbs) are available and can be taken as many as you like. To have a good fry, each of the skewers (except for teiyaki and takoyaki) has to be dipped in the batter, then coated it with the panko, and dipped it in the fryers for about 1-2 minutes. Just watch it so it doesn’t swim too long in the fryers, or it might get burnt. Fish it out after done, and rest the deep fried skewer on the side, and eat while it’s warm! Pretty basic right?

Oh, you can eat them with the available dressing too, from onion mayo, tonkatsu, etc. They’re all available at the centre station where ala carte menu is also available and of course, you can enjoy the ala carte menu as much as you want it.

Two of the most notable ala carte menus were the chicken teriyaki and karaage. The chicken teriyaki was quite bold in the teriyaki note and I loved it.

For the karaage, it just never fails. The karaage here quite successfully satisfied my crunchy craving. Anyway, we can even add golden curry sauce if you wish. 😉

The other mini donburi I made.

Oh, the newest addition in Kushiya is the sushi selections. They actually understand that Japanese food lovers will want sushi, so they serve it for patrons.

For dessert lovers, you will love to know that Kushiya serves some cakes and even chocolate fondue for fun-dipping. You can pick some fruits, marshmallows, and even mini puff and coat them with the luscious chocolate.

To add more fun, ice cream maker is available and we can make our own ice cream. Matcha and Vanilla flavours are available. You can have both at once as well! But anyway, I didn’t take any pictures of it since there were quite a queue and the waiting time was quite long. Well, if you visit Kushiya, you should really make and create your ice cream dessert. You can play and decorate it with some toppings available there such as fruit loops or oreo, and maybe with some of the fruits.

Let me now award the best food of the night and it goes to…

Oh, no no no! I actually meant this! Here goes the best food, mini taiyaki! <3

This mini cutie was real good and I had more than 5 pieces. It actually was more like a soft pancake with red bean paste inside. You fry it for a minute or so, and eat it up! Oh, you can even dip it in the chocolate fondue and it will guarantee a mouthgasm. 😉

Drinks are included in the buffet too, with many to choose from. You can have Teh Tarikh, Tea, Milo, Cappuccino, Fruit Juice and etc.

Well, to summarise the verdict, I do think that what Kushiya does here is unique and unlike any others. The fun concept of Do-It-Yourself Buffet Style can really work for fun seekers. For me, I personally is on the fence about how I felt during the dining experience. At one side, I found that fried food kinda overwhelmed my tastebuds due to its oiliness. But it will be a good idea if I come with a crowd, maybe good friends or family, the fun moment can easily be created with this DIY Buffet style activity.

The price is rather reasonable too! For weekend, the price per person is IDR 148k++, and for weekdays, the price per person is IDR 128k++. With lots of skewer selections, ala carte menu, fruits, salad, cold pasta, rice dishes, desserts and drinks, I can’t help but think that the price is pretty much worth it.

As an added information, they will rotate the menu once every three months so patrons can have more variety to enjoy.

So, fancy some skewers? 🙂
