Simple Lunch at Tuan Rumah.

Who loves Chinese food? Me! I bet a lot of us actually love Chinese food. It has been a part of us, considering so many hearty Chinese food from the simplest to the most sophisticated ones we can find in Jakarta alone. Me myself, grow together with it. My mom is a great cook, and she can really cook a lot of delicious Chinese food that I can’t live without. Well, this is not the part where I promote my mom’s cooking, so I will just go straight to the point.

This is going to be a short review for Tuan Rumah, which I got to visit yesterday. It’s actually not my first time dining in at Tuan Rumah. They used to have an outlet in Kelapa Gading, which sadly has closed down a while ago. I dined in there a few times, and I actually considered the place as a decent chinese fusion restaurant. When I found out that they have another outlet in Food Centrum – Sunter, I went there.

Tuan Rumah is a chinese fusion restaurant which offers a great range of dishes. Like any other chinese restaurants, they have a good selection of chicken, fish, prawn, beef and vegetable dishes.

Oh the ambiance in this outlet is great! Check it out!

See? That’s why I love the place.

But let’s see the food.

# Brokoli Siram Udang (IDR 28,455)

This dish is a kind of sautéed broccoli with prawns and covered with thick stirred-egg broth. It was pretty good, hence the appearance (the picture in the menu book is much nicer).

# Udang Pasir Emas (IDR 39,545)

This is a fried prawn that’s covered with salted egg yolk sauce. I normally love this type of dishes very much since I love salted egg yolk. But the thing with this dish is that the prawns were cooked in a very bad way. The prawns seemed overcooked and the salted egg yolk lacked the signature savoury kick. I hope this was a one time mistake because this dish was my first and it was disappointing. It also seemed a bit overpriced due to the small portion.

That’s for now.

According to me, the highlights of Tuan Rumah are the prices of the food and the standard consistency in their food quality. The prices of the food seem pretty cheap, but on the other hand, the portion of the food is pretty small. One dish is for one person. Sort of. Regarding the food, they are usually good, but not extraordinary as well. The “Udang Pasir Emas” was pretty disappointing though.

Everything is just enough, not more. So, when I feel like having a simple chinese kind of lunch or dinner, I choose to have a visit here. If you have never visited Tuan Rumah before, I think you should give it a try. You can bring your family here for dinner, and perhaps they will like it.
