A Lovely Lunch at Wilshire, Senopati | EATJKT 2015

Hi foodventurers, have you heard about EATJKT 2015 by Qraved? It’s a festive event where 100 restaurants in 1 city (Jakarta!) gather and throw a great value promotion in the form of specially-priced (you can save up to 50%!) set menu for hungry foodies out there.

I do think that it’s an awesome annual celebration which provides a great opportunity for foodies to indulge in the adventurous culinary experience without actually ripping off foodies’ wallet. All we have to do is make the reservation via Qraved for your fav restaurant. Convenient at its best. ☺

Just a few days ago, I got a chance in participating the event and eventually, had a gorgeous lunch at Wilshire, of the participating restaurants, with fellow foodies.

Did you know the pretty-looking Wilshire has recently been relocated to Senopati? It’s now located on the second floor of Ismaya’s Colette and Lola. It’s actually my first visit since the recent relocation. The place is now a bit smaller, but seems more functional. Well, interior-wise, it’s as pretty as ever. The hanging bulbs, the beautifully-arranged wall-tiles (and floor tiles!), plus the bar are all well-designed to showcase Wilshire’s elegance. My eyes were in a delightful state seeing this pretty scene.

After enjoying myself around while taking pictures, the communal lunch was started easy with a glass of pretty concoction. Since I don’t drink, I tried a sip (barely) and decided to leave it alone and let the others gave their appreciation.

Our drinks were also served soon enough. Some of us ordered tea and some ordered mocktails. I was one of the latter, and picked myself a Monkey See, Monkey Do. Funny name! I guess my inner monkey king went wild seeing the al-time fav banana on the mix. :3

The Monkey See, Monkey Do is consisted of monk..oh, I mean banana, hazelnut, peanut butter, honey and milk.:D

There were some other cute mocktails as well, especially the newest-comer, Sheila’s Carnival. As the name suggests, it shows a piece of a carnival by putting the hat-like cotton candy on top. The liquid is actually a mix of strawberry, cranberry, orange and passionfruit. Exotic drinks from exotic ingredients, right?

Mix Berry on the other hand, looked pretty normal. It is crafted with various berries (strawberry, cranberry, and raspberry), as hinted on the name, and some honey to silken up the mixture.

Oh, ladies, this surely looks good for you. Strawberry Shortcake. <3

Time surely went fast with company of good foodies,. Food was served one by one and they looked seducing.

During EATJKT 2015 event, Wilshire offers 2 kinds of menu. The appetizer and dessert for both menus are the same, while what differs the menus is the main course.

Menu 1 (IDR 215 k net/pax)
Appetizer | Sesame Chicken Salad
Main Course | Garlic Noodle with Prawns OR Squid Ink Fried Rice
Dessert | Earl Grey Crème Brulee

Menu 2 (IDR 349 k net/pax)
Appetizer | Sesame Chicken Salad
Main Course | Slow Cooked 55 Degree Wagyu Bowl in hot stone
Dessert | Earl Grey Crème Brulee

I chose Menu 2 and was looking forward to indulging myself in the slow cooked Wagyu.

Let’s see what I had in mind when enjoying all the delicacies.

# Sesame Chicken Salad
Let me tell you that I absolutely loved this salad (lately, this green-looking veggie dish tends to surprise me!)! The bowl was filled with a few pale stuff, but apparently did a serious damage. The rocket salad, the cherry tomatoes, slices of radish, gorgeous crispy arugula and sous vide chicken were perfect! With the sesame dressing to bind them all, my mouth simply couldn’t stop munching.

# Slow Cooked 55 Degree Wagyu Bowl in hot stone
As the main course, this was of course the highly anticipated dish of the day. The result was not a disappointment. It sure looked a bit plain, sort of minimalist. Not exactly a big hero type to save the day. But don’t be fooled! The chunks of wagyu were real goodness. The wagyu was completely covered in flavor, and I especially loved the succulent tender texture. Slow cooked is tricky, but once made right, the result is terrific. It was such a joy munching them chunk by chunk. If I have to be critical, I have one note though. The rice quality seemed a bit ordinary. I expected more in a restaurant this class, well, for the very least, they can use Japanese rice which is infamous for its prime quality.

# Earl Grey Crème Brulee
The dessert was only an okay. It was fragrant with the typical earl grey, but the brulee layer on top was too thick, resulted in a very hard texture.

From the Menu 1, I got to try the Garlic Noodle with Prawns, and it was pretty garlicky, in a good way. The prawns were huge!

Other dishes that were also served complimentarily made a great impression as well. Some are real gems!

# Urban-Egg-Buritto
Funny name for a funny dish. An unexpected fusion dish between the famous buritto and our very own Nasi Goreng Gila. The modernized and hybrid buritto resulted in a very good twist, with sausages, eggs, veggie and chicken chunks as the fillings.

# Garlic Udon with Prawns
This udon was very similar to the noodle counterpart. Again, huge prawns!

# Braised Ox-Tongue
Incredible dish which is plated in a pretty similar style as the Wagyu Bowl. The ox-tongue was a champion, with the ultimate tenderness (remind me of Michael Buble’s song, Try a Little Tenderness) to tease your taste buds. Simply the knight in shining armour for the day.

# Pan-fried Duck Confit with Waffle
This unusual match was surprisingly delish. The waffle was very crispy with rich layers. The duck confit was excellent. To bind both bold characters, another strange ingredient was put in the mix, maple syrup. The result? Exploding twist of clashing flavours, and all in a very good way!

# Chocolate Soil with Carrot Cake
I am always a fan of carrot cake. This version by Wilshire receives a twist, a marriage between the popular Chocolate Soil and the old-fashioned Carrot Cake. I somehow still love the left-alone normal Carrot Cake though. 😀

So far, the food and drinks by Wilshire were pretty good. In this visit, I honestly felt that Wilshire did better with the taste of the food compared to my previous visit (before the relocating).
