This time around, my review will be about the crowd-pleasure, indonesian meatballs a.k.a BAKSO! Let me drop the good news and tell you that Bakso Boedjangan – a well-known bakso joint in Bandung – has expanded its trace to Jakarta, and what’s even better, its first outlet in Jakarta is just like 3-5 minutes away from my apartment in Kelapa Gading!
With its big signage and hard-to-miss crowds, Bakso Boedjangan drew my attention in an instant, it’s almost like a calling!
Just last Sunday, I visited the place quite early at 11 and the first floor has all been occupied with hungsters (the abbreviation of hungry youngsters :D). We went up a floor, and quickly grab a seat. The smell of the beefy aroma had really digged in my appetite!
What we had in the first encounter are pretty much everything. We tried the Bakso Telur Asin, Bakso Super Pedas, Bakso Keju, Nasi Goreng Urat, and many more!
# Bakso Super Urat (IDR 24 k)
The original version is the all time favourite I guess. The humble back to basic bakso was really good. First, the texture was real smooth but twisted with the tendon chewy texture. Second, it was real beefy, and I loved it! Pour some chili, and add a drop (or two) vinegar, then I’m all content!
# Bakso Super Pedas (IDR 24 k)
# Bakso Super Keju (IDR 24 k)
Bakso with melted cheese sounded wrong for me at first. I was sceptical with the idea, but it turned out to be quite good. The melted cheese was blending well with the flavour of beef, and it resulted in a great combo. If I must file a complain, I’ll file one. More cheese, please!
# Bakso Telur Bebek (IDR 28 k)
Bakso with duck egg! Who is up for this? I was! Honestly speaking, with my expectation high above the ground, it fell short a tiny bit. Well, maybe I expected a version of this with soft boiled egg like those Japanese one, but then again, my imagination was too wild the censorship can’t handle it, so the blame is on me. Overall, still good though, all thanks to the delicious consistently-good bakso!
# Nasi Bakso Saus Telur Asin (IDR 25.5 k)
This, This.. was really good! Appearance-wise, I was frowning seeing it looking like some weird stuff. But then, I smell the salted yolk and I could really heard the song “I see your true colours~ ♬” in my head. Imagine all those sexy ‘balls’ drenched in finger-licking good, sexy and savoury salted egg yolk. I instantly had the foodgasm! Confused with my explanation? Go taste it!
# Nasi Goreng Urat Boedjangan (IDR 26 k)
Another confusing dish! So, people always said thag we shouldn’t judge the book by the cover. But sadly, as often as I say it in my mind, I still do judge. With its plain-looking and boresome look, I couldn’t help but judge. I even tasted this last, like after I had everything else. It turned out to be, DELICIOUS! How so? Argh, it’s frustating to find the right words to say it, but the fried rice hit all the right spots in my sense of taste! It had the perfect amount of seasonings, mixed with ridiculously good bakso urat (tendon)! Truly my favourite, standing toe-to-toe with the Bakso Saus Telur Asin and Bakso Super Pedas!
# Black Yamin yang Misterius (IDR 15 k)
Amongst all, they also serve noodles, and of course it’s the typical bandung noodles, Yamin! The black Yamin was pretty good, and not to mention, super cheap! Since it’s mysterious, do try it yourself! 😉
# Green Yamin yang Healthy (IDR 15 k)
Going for a healthy direction, you can also enjoy the green yamin. Taste-wise, I prefer this one to the black one. The texture of the green noodles was funny but in a nice way!
# Es Duren Kesepian (IDR 25 k)
100 grams of the famous Medanese durian, drenched in Vanilla sauce. If you know me well, you’ll instaly know that it won’t be my favourite. I detest durian! But off the record, my friends did really enjoy it!
With all those gorgeous goodness, I truly madly deeply recommend you to go to Bakso Boedjangan and have a try! Aside from all the goodness, the pricing was really reasonable, especially in this area (where you’ll often encounter bakmi with 40-60 thousand rupiah!).
