It seems like it was yesterday when my Muslim friends started their fasting month, but it turns out that this year, Ramadhan comes early. The frequently asked question is of course, “Where should we visit for breaking the fast?”. That is one tricky question!

Here I have a suggestion for you and it’s Bengawan in the 7th floor of Keraton, Jakarta.

Themed as A Delightful Iftar, Bengawan welcomes the holy month with sumptuous Indonesian cuisine, from savoury fritters, assorted grilled satays, the very much well-known Beef Rendang, Chef’s daily selections of fish with a touch of Middle Eastern flairs. Imagine having to enjoy all that and finish it will an array of gorgeous desserts from Baklava, Dates to fragrant Masala Tea!

My experience here at Bengawan is one that brought a positive impression.
The luxurious vibes with well-decored stations and the smell of food did easily lift my appetite from zero to 10!

I could describe that the food stations here are generally divided into 4 stations.
From near the entrance, there is a dessert station where sweets, fruits and cakes are arranged meticulously in the sole purpose of being appetising, almost like they were waving and seducing you to come and take a bite. I guess this station is easily my fav station.

Then there’s the main station where chefs are preparing their food, or grilling their satays. This is where they make magic happen. Of course, the first thing I could see here were the Chicken Satays and Beef Satays, with all the appropriate condiments such as peanut sauce and chili soy sauce. The smell of Tongseng Kikil and Opor Ayam were lingering all around me. Then, there were Telur Goreng Kecap, Terong Balado, and Beef Rendang.

Just across the main station, there is a station where the likes of salad stay. There were Karedok, Waldorf Salad, Three Bean Salad, Asinan Sayur, Warak Enab, Tabbouleh and Barbaganous. I skipped this station because I was saving some space for my belly to digest other meaty dishes. XD

The last station is where Middle Eastern cuisine resides from Persian Chicken, Bamia (Okra Stew), Beef Moussaka (Layered Meat & Vegetables), Bukhari Riceland Maroccan Lamb Harissa.

This Delightful Iftar can be enjoyed daily at Bengawan, from May 7- June 4, 2019.
