Let’s have big breakfast at Carnivor!

Calling out for true carnivores!

Firstly, Carnivor is now available for breakfast, people. How exciting! You can actually enjoy a fairly extensive range of breakfast menus here and some desserts.
Lucky me, I was granted a chance to have a try here and my huge thanks goes to Mr. Adriantomo, one of the most humblest people I’ve known so far, and definitely not forgetting Mr. Ridwan, the managing director of Carnivor (and more others).

It was only a week ago, my beloved food blogger friends and I were sitting there at the cozy spot by the window enjoying the breakfast menus, chatting, laughing and obviously taking pictures of the luscious breakfast choices. Anyway, this is what I want to share here. I will share it in a more casual way. 🙂

As an intermezzo, It’s been quite some times since I joined the last food tasting event. And honestly, I kinda lost track of time when it comes to how long. Office days are extremely fast-paced and most of the times, I will have to spend (more or less) 12 hours sitting behind the laptop and telephone. Weekend is my day and I would love to have a casual rest and walk to lift off some of my stressful thought. But when it comes to food events, I often couldn’t help but say yes.

Why? It’s not because of the ‘free food‘ as what most of you would have assumed (and judged) about us, foodies. But it’s more to the knowledge, the experience, and most importantly the fun time with fellow foodies. Sometimes, we get to know new people too! And those are precious. 🙂

Back to our breakfast thingy, I have a lot to share here. I got to take a lot of pictures that time, but not every food was tasted. I will then only explain all of the food that I tried, and occasionally share some opinions from fellow food bloggers that I’d heard of.

# Tiramisu Latte

The Tiramisu Latte is only available iced. At the first sip, I tasted the tiramisu characteristic quite strongly. It was pretty good. A bit of the downside, I think it was a tad too sweet for me. Maybe they should tone the sweetness down a bit.

# Spanish Hash (IDR 65 k) – poached egg, hollandaise sauce, diced potato, sausage bratwurst, pork ham and toasted bread

Presentation-wise, it was quite regular but I had no idea why it looked so tempting to me. I was definitely tempted to steal a spoonful when the photo-session was on, but I managed to pull myself together and waited until it’s breaking fast time. 😉

I ordered this for myself, and eventually found my self slightly disappointed with the dish. As much as I would love to love it, the Spanish Hash was bland. There was no memorable character in the dish besides the pork ham, which was even lack of salt. The hollandaise sauce was supposedly the main element that mend all the ingredients but somehow failed to do its part. the texture was very thin, too liquid, and tasted very tame. With the help of universal sauce which is CHILI SAUCE, it managed to get a bit of flavour to spice the whole dish up.

# Shakshouka (IDR 68 k) – sizzling pan of homemade tomato, onion, studded with sausage ham, crowned with two eggs, toasted bread, and mesclun salad

Shakshouka is a Tunision signature breakfast dish. Still, presentation-wise, it was very appetising. Especially with two half done eggs, the whole dish turned itself as one of the favourites for the day.

A lot of my friends chose this dish as their breakfast that day, and they looked pretty satisfied. As for me, I think it was great as well. The tomato, onion and sausage ham bits and pieces were lovely. If only it was added with some more pepper, salt and a hint of chili/red pepper powder, it would be a very good breakfast for me!

# Croque Monsieur | Mix Cheese (IDR 48 k) – tomato sauce, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese and cream cheese

Honestly, this is one of the healthiest dish there. It’s vegetarian friendly and for cheese lovers, it would be a great choice. Why? Because it has lots of cheese! For me, the Mix Cheese Croque Monsieur was only slightly more than okay. I could only taste the mozzarella cheese mostly, and mozzarella cheese tends to be a bit less savoury compared to the other type of cheese. Or perhaps, it’s just mostly because I am a meat maniac, so whenever, I find something meatless, I will consider it as lack of taste or somehow, missing something. 😀

# Egg Benedict | Smoked Ham (IDR 45 k) – 2 poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, fun bread, and sautéed mushroom

Firstly, they actually serve other options for the egg benedict, which are streaky bacon (49 k) and salmon (65 k). I got to try a bit of the smoked ham and found it pretty good. But.. okay, more buts to come, the bread was not fun at all as it was amazingly chewy, boring, and too tough as a fun bread. They should have used muffins or simple bread instead. Hollandaise sauce was again, a bit too liquid with the lack of savoury element. The poached eggs were fortunately cooked perfectly as the yolk was melting gorgeously when cut.

# Carnivor Big Breakfast (IDR 69 k)  2 eggs to your liking, baked beans, streaky pork bacon, sausage bratwurst, sautéed mushroom, and white toasts

I guess this is the signature breakfast after all. It is one of that western-styled breakfast with toasts, pork bacon, sausage bratwurst, sautéed mushroom, two eggs (cooked to your liking), and small bowl of baked beans. Everything on the plate was good and well-seasoned. The Carnivor Big Breakfast has everything you will need for a good breakfast, varying semi-healthy and full of protein elements and it definitely will suit the westerners’ appetite. I personally loved it for two reasons. The first one is because of its fulfilling portion and the second reason? Pork bacon, sausages, and eggs will never go wrong!  😉

# Molten Chocolate Lava

I heard it was good, before even coming here. But I didn’t try it during our breakfast. Maybe I was a bit too full and somehow, forgot about this molten lava. But honestly, the appearance of this dessert was a bit sad. It will be more appetising if it was served nicely on a clean pretty plate with some additional green garnishes to make it more inviting. After all, when people say not to judge the book by its cover, people still judge anyway. 😉

# Apple Crumble (IDR 35 k)

One of the most fav desserts I absolutely love is Apple Crumble (or any fruit else with crispy crumbles for that matters). So I was somehow excited to try. After it was served, I was still a bit carried away and unintentionally had my expectation up high above the cloud. With a spoonful of apple tidbits and crumbles surrendering itself into my mouth, a let down came rushing to me. The apple tidbits were definitely undercooked, as it was still way to crispy-ish. The apple in Apple Crumble is supposed to be soft and when served, it should have that elastic-ish feature, thus making it a little chewy, but light and tame in the mouth. The crispy crumbles are supposed to be the opposite element that come in contrast with the apple texture, showing off its playful rather-sweet crunchiness. And those elements I told you about were not there on the gorgeous hot plate. With that basic rule blown away, the ice cream was definitely not a helping hand at all.

# Chocolate Waffle (IDR 35 k)

They actually have several options, original, strawberry, chocolate and hazelnut. The original waffle was slightly cheaper and all choices come with a scoop of ice cream. What we had for the day is the Chocolate Waffle. Apparently, despite the conventional look, it was pretty good. The waffle was pretty crispy on the outer layer and pretty soft inside. The waffle was nicely matched with chocolate syrup and a scoop of chocolate ice cream. If I could say a thing, I would definitely suggest Carnivor to serve Waffle with Nutella, considering how scrumptious it would be!

>> Mystery Guest <<

Here I added a “Mystery Guest” section! It is a section where I will put some pictures of the food I did not taste, did not know, and did not find appealing. ;D

# Affogato

Didn’t try this one at all. Nobody even admitted that they ordered this. 😀

# Something Something…

I had and have no idea what this is and it appeared and vanished without my knowing. I didn’t even get this from the breakfast menu list. But I somehow took the picture. I guess I really just had a short term memory loss or something else. It’s like its existence was entirely denied in my world.

# Bread Pudding (IDR 32 k)

Unlike any other bread pudding I’ve known my entire life, this appeared to be something quite ‘new’. It was actually an oven-baked long bread, cut into several chunks like a bruschetta, and showered with raisins and served side-by-side with a scoop of ice cream. I didn’t get a chance to try it tho’, so I can’t really say a thing.

Anyway, our breakfast was pretty good generally. Some of the dishes could have been better, but it, of course, might take some time to get to perfection. And let’s not forget that every one has different preferences, and this review is just my naked two cents. For the criticisms, it is meant to be purely constructive, and definitely for the sake of Carnivor, in hope that it will help Carnivor improve more (if considered necessary). I certainly see a great opportunity for Carnivor to dive into the list of restaurants that serve awesome breakfasts.

Lastly, the event created a really great moment for me, to be gathered with all lovely foodies as well. I enjoyed the day and will most likely to come back again with family and friends for hearty breakfast. And you, how about you? Will you come and have the breakfast at Carnivor? If yes, don’t forget to share with me about your opinions! You can find me here or my instagram. 🙂
