One of the newest happiest place is spotted! Located in Jalan Melawai, the name is quite catchy and the signboard will simply remind us the gaming vibe back when we were just children, playing pixelated cute games on classic platforms.
Not only shown from the facade, the interior inside is designed in an industrial concept with many pixelated food-related icons attached on the walls. The interior will remind you of your childhood and make you feel like you’re entering the gaming world.
There are in total of 9 food stations and 1 in-house drink corner inside Food Fighters. Those 10 stations are inhabited by tenants with different food and drink specialty, consists of 1 station from the food truck named Black Jack, and 8 others originated from Pasar Santa (Kopi Pasar, Miechino, Zucker Waffle, Judas, Sate Bumbu Oma, Papricano and Sloppy Bro, Yipiko, & Bonara Pasta) and 1 drink corner managed by the Food Fighters. Since most tenants are from Pasar Santa, somehow it becomes the upgraded version of Pasar Santa with much better vibe, less sweat and more comfortable. It is also more organised since each tenant have different food and drink category to offer. So, no tenants get to sell the same kind of food, making patrons more comfortable to pick their lunch or dinner just simply based on what they are craving at the moment. If you want some chewy noodles or Bahn Mi, just get one with Miechino or if you are thinking about having sweet or savoury waffle, Zucker Waffle is the one to lay your eyes (or tongues for that matter :P) on.
The position of each station is done strategically, but some stations are more spacious than the others. Each tenant owns each corner and decorated it as they wanted it. I especially love how Kopi Pasar decorated their specific corner with some flowers and stuff. It just shown its humility and simplicity, with a touch of warmth.
Let’s see what we had there last weekend.
# KOPI PASAR
This tenant is the form of collaboration of the well-known ABCD Coffee and Bear & Co. ABCD Coffee focuses on hot coffee and Bear & Co. focuses on cold coffee.
We tried Cappuccino (IDR 27 k) and Nitro Cold Brew (IDR 20 k) and both were great! I loved the cappuccino as the texture and aroma were simply spot on.
# DRINKS by FOOD FIGHTERS
From the in house, we got to try the irresistible Kakigori. 3 options are available, and we were recommended to try their signature green one with Green Tea Ice Cream.
Presentation-wise, the kakigori was intriguing and simply eye-turning. We got to pick the cotton candy on top and lick it all, then there was the lovely matcha ice cream with caramel pop corns, 2 sticks to pink pocky, seaweed jelly and shaved ice. I guess this is somehow an obligatory dessert in Food Fighters.
# MIECHINO
Another tenant from Pasar Santa, the well-known Miechino which offers chewy noodles (bakmi karet) and Bahn Mi! I was glad I tried both. The signature noodle (mie karet ayam jamur – IDR 25 k) with 1 fried dumpling (IDR 5 k) and 2 pieces of meatballs (IDR 5 k) were good and the noodle was fairly bouncy. Their noodle is freshly made and it doesn’t use eggs!
While the noodle is for the light-hearted, the Bahn Mi is for the person with daring appetite. The Bahn Mi Chicken with Lemongrass (IDR 30 k) was a real show. The chicken patty was especially fragrant and I could see that they seasoned it perfectly.
As we know it, Judas in Pasar Santa is specialised in healthy beverages. On the other hand, Judas dares itself and step up for more. They offer healthy food as an added bonus for healthy-minded patrons.
The OZ Beef Burger (IDR 35 k) was the best burger we tried there. As simple and ‘normal’ as it looks, it tasted good with bursting flavour! The green beans as the side dish worked perfectly in balancing the meaty main.
The healthy beverages they serve were nice as well and the extensive selection will make you curious. The picture above is OPEENACH (orange, pineapple and spinach – IDR 35 k).
# ZUCKER WAFFLE
Another famous tenant from Pasar Santa. With its specialty in liege waffle, Zucker Waffle is one of the main favourite in Food Fighters especially with its recent savoury addition that features Sirloin Steak Waffle (IDR 40 k) and Fried Chicken Waffle (IDR 35 k).
We tried the Sirloin Steak Waffle and was blown away by its sirloin steak goodness. The sirloin was simply tender and succulent with humble flavouring to showcase the main star. Waffle has just been upgraded to a whole new level.
The sweet selection was gorgeous as well. The original liege waffle was topped with vanilla ice cream. With appropriate toppings, the waffle was just so easy to be fully enjoyed. Oh, their signature drink, Milk Shake (IDR 20 k) was lovely too.
# BLACK JACK
Black Jack is the only tenant from the food truck with its black burger and black noodle specialty. We tried the Black Jack Jumbo Burger (IDR 45 k) and it was pretty good. The size was huge.
This is the Black Magic Noodle.
# PAPRICANO & SLOPPY BRO
Who loves Mexican food? Me! Well, the mexican addition in Food Fighters is a really good idea. With its increasing popularity, I bet Papricano & Sloppy Bro will do well here. We tried the Quesadilla (IDR 25 k) and it was quite good.
# SATE BUMBU OMA
I hereby declared that Sate Bumbu Oma was simply my most favourite. The signature here is the satay or skewers with choices of chicken or lamb. We got to try it first hand, the Chicken Mix Lamb (IDR 40 k) and we got to say that it impressed us.
Instead of being grilled and topped with the traditional peanut sauce or the usual sweet soy sauce, the skewers are showered with sweet-honey sauce with a twist of sour freshness and fragrant spices. Simply love it! We also do think that it is one of the most unique dishes in Food Fighters, all in its own right.
Besides the skewers, they offer various flavours of pudding as well. There are Green Tea Pudding (IDR 8 k), Straw Nesquik Pudding, Choco Kitkat Pudding, Irish Coffee Pudding, Dopey Coffee Pudding (each IDR 12 k) and Milo Lego Pudding (IDR 15k).
Oh, the Ica Carica Fruit (IDR 20 k) is a must-try fruit dessert slash (/) drink! A total refresher.
All in all, this hippie spot will definitely be something serious in the future. It’s an awesome place to hang out, chill and simply food-venture with its promising tenants. The price range itself was pretty reasonable ranging from IDR 20 k – IDR 50 k in exchange for good-quality food and drinks.
One input though, is that they can actually offer more desserts, not just kakigori, but other popular (and cute) desserts. With more options for desserts, patrons will have more freedom to have the after meal party. 😉
Will I be back? Yes, indefinitely! You should visit the place too before the crowd gets crazy. They will have the grand opening in mid of September 2015!
