Katsu Feast at Katsu Ya!

So, I am a fan of Katsu, a Japanese delicacy that you can mostly find at any Japanese Restaurants in Jakarta. But, the question is not where to find any Katsu here in our beloved city, but it’s more about where to find a GREAT Katsu in Jakarta. So, I personally have tried a lot of Pork/Chicken/Beef Katsu and up to this date, I can say that I truly have only 3 places in mind with really good Katsu and one of these is Katsu Ya, a fairly new restaurant in Jakarta and they are located in Pantai Indah Kapuk, an area where all restaurants, cafes, coffee shops gather.

The location here is a good one, and they are at the row where you can find lots of good restaurants too such as The Garden, Chir Chir and Flaming Mr. Pig.

Well, this Katsu Ya has 2 operating floors for guests, and they designed their interior with Japanese minimalism vibes and I think it’s quite decent.
For the menu, of course, no doubt you can find a lot of katsu and its kinds here, but for those who are not a fan of katsu, there are other dishes to choose from and you won’t running out of options, such as tempura, sushi, kiritanpo, donburi, etc. Oh, they have gorgeous Teppan Udon too! Price-wise, they are actually in the middle range but with some quite cheap appetizers too starting as low as Rp 22k.

Well, let’s jump into the main ride.

# Hokkaido Toast Soup (Rp 28 k)
Creamy Japanese soup with Chicken/Kani in a toast bread.

So, starting with an honest opinion, this one was not my favourite. I meant, it’s quite okay but flavor-wise, it’s quite bland for me. But it’s a type of comfort food, so I know why it’s in the menu. Plus it’s not pricey. 🙂

# Ebi Katsu Sando (Rp 38 k)
Juicy prawn cutlet between soft breads.

Then, there is this katsu in between soft breads, or I can call sandwich! This type of food was buzzing quite loudly a while ago, but somehow, after trying it myself, I don’t think it’s really that good for me tho’. I’m sure I’m biased because I’m also not a fan of sandwich. I just prefer my carbs in the form of rice. lol.

# Tori Cheese Katsu Set (Rp 88 k)

The main show! Here is a Chicken Katsu with generous filling of melted cheese! Yes, it’s as yummy as it looks! So here is why this is so good. The bread crumbs/panko of basically every katsu here in Katsu Ya is beautifully wrapped around the protein, in this case, chicken. Then, deep fried perfectly until crisp and golden. Imagine biting it, with the sound of crispiness. Then our sense of taste meets the tender chicken and suddenly in between turns, bursting with the goodness of melting cheese. Yes, that’s porn.

# Prawn & Hire Katsu Set (Rp 148 k)

So, also another of Katsu Ya’s forte! Basically is the same goodness, because they have the right skill and ingredients to make their katsu special. The prawn was great, and the hire (which is actually a cut of Pork Tenderloin) was even better.

# Beef Fuji Lava Don (Rp 58 k)
Delicious Japanese rice that resembled Mount Fuji with beef slices and tasty sauce.

Can I be honest? We took quite some time in taking pictures, and I’m sure that’s the reason why the beef slices were a bit dry. But if eaten hot, I’m sure this would have been yummy!

# Beef Saikoro Don (Rp 88 k)
Delicious dish made from beef on top of rice, coated with homemade sauce.

Oh goodness. Saikoro is one of my most fav beef cuts. The sailor beef here was as tender as it could be. The sauce was great and fragrant. Also, this would have been the ultimate dish if eaten hot!

# Salmon Sukiyaki (Rp 88 k)

For comfort food seeker, this is a catch.
Salmon Sukiyaki is one of the most comforting food that I can actually enjoy every day if I have to.
It’s hearty, it’s healthy and it’s good! The sweetness of sukiyaki was perfect here, the salmon was as fresh as it could be, and I really recommend this to you guys!

# Aoi Cha (Rp 18 k)
Blue Pea drink! One word: Pretty!

Well, needless to say, my experience was good, and I’m delighted to share that this restaurant is recommended! Especially when you are craving a really good Katsu dishes. Also, very importantly, they provide the important Katsu condiments, such as sesame seeds, tonkatsu sauce and the mini bowl with the mini pounder to pound the sesame seeds for maximum flavor!
