My saturday was wonderful as it marked with a visit to a freshly-opened pizzeria in Sunter area.
Honestly, as foodventurous as I claimed to be, I never really like going to Sunter for culinary. There was no significant restaurants/cafes that attracted me to come or revisit. This visit to the pizzeria named Pizzeria Cavalese changed my mind.
Pizzeria Cavalese is, like its name, a restaurant specializing in pizza, North Italy style. It just recently opened, about 1 week ago from our visit. Cavalese itself is a town located in North Italian province, Trentino Alto Adige. Cavalese is well-known for its nearby locations, from mountains to ski resorts. It is in fact the gateway to the Dolomites which was crowned as one of the UNESCO world heritage.
Named after the town, Pizzeria Cavalese commited to serve innovative Italian food with a touch of Asian taste by utilising mostly local ingredients to suit local palates. And before you ask the question, no, Pizzeria Cavalese is neither an international name nor a franchise. 😉
Interior-wise, Pizzeria Cavalese brings a feel of Italy. Most decors used wooden paneling and furniture to bring out the homey and warm touch.
There are two floors for guests to choose from. The first floor is half open-kicthen for pizza-making, and half dining area. The second floor is fully dining area. The second floor is more spacious and even has an outdoor balcony with more or less four long tables (each for 4 people). The overall ambiance for both floors is great, but I personally prefer the second floor.
Let’s talk about food!
Pizzeria Cavalese offers quite a range of food, from interesting pizza-based appetizers, salad, pizza (obviously!), pasta and even desserts!
# Pizza Bites (IDR 32 k)
Identified perfectly with its name, Pizza Bites is consisted of several deep-fried pizza balls with salami and mozzarella filling. With the flavourful sweet and sour (ala thai) dipping sauce, the pizza bites turned out to be pretty awesome.
# Little Mexican Pizza (IDR 38 k)
This new breed from the mix of pizza and taco is rather unique. Appearance wise, it was really pretty, and the way to enjoy it is simply grab and bite it like the old school taco. The chicken as the fillingThe dough used is actually pizza dough, and it’s what makes it different.
# Piedmont (IDR 105 k)
Cheese based pizza with mixed mushroom toppings and truffle oil. This even comes with sunny side up on top! Mushroom lovers will love this mushroom paradise.
# Sawadee Gai (IDR 89 k)
Thai sauce based pizza with chicken, onions, shaved carrots, and cilantro. This was truly the winner of the day. The seemingly underrated pizza appeared to be the strongest contender. The fusion between the taste of thai and italy came seamlessly. The flavour was pretty intense and bold, and once I had this, I couldn’t go back to have the normal pizza. 😉 Highly recommended for those who seek something new!
# Calda!!! (IDR 55 k)
Spaghetti Tuna with spicy Matah sauce. Another twisted menu which I was very skeptical when I read the description. I listened to my gut and had this anyway. The result was pretty mind-blowing. It instantly became my second favourite (just a step behind Sawadee Gai). In my honest opinion, this pasta was perfectly twisted without being awkward or gimmicky. The matah sauce was epic, covering all the spaghetti in this spicy fragrant balinese flavour.
# Chicken Spaetzli (IDR 69 k)
This is rather unique. Said to be originally with German, Austria influence, the spaetzli is actually homemade here. I had the hint that spaetzli is supposed to be under the same origin with gnocchi, somehow they share similar texture. But the main highlight went to the baked chicken with creamy sauce. The chicken was extraordinary tender, and the creamy sauce blended perfectly well with the chicken. All in all, this was my second favourite too (it’s a tie then with Calda!)
# Berry Berry (IDR 32 k)
The mocktail here was pretty awesome too. I tried the Berry Berry, made of banana, strawberry yogurt and blueberry puree. All I could say is that it was pretty great and somehow tropical, in a sweet way.
# Brownies with Ice Cream (IDR 55 k)
Our meal ended with two gorgeous desserts. My favourite was definitely this chocolate brownies, with peanut butter, marshmallow and vanilla ice cream. The combination of those four was fabulous and I am pretty sure that you will love it! Definitely a crowd-pleaser!
# Lime Cheese Mousse (IDR 42 k)
This light dessert is better not be underestimated. The lime infused cheese cream was exotic with a touch of refreshing jams. It is topped with graham crackers and I think it added texture to the silky smooth mousse.
To sum up, Pizzeria Cavalese is definitely an awesome new-comer in the culinary field. The experience and skill of the chef blended with the creative mind certainly showed us the big result. Almost everything we tried was flawless and we loved the unique touch in each and every dish.
I highly recommend the Sawadee Gai pizza, Calda!!! and Chicken Spaetzli. For a period of probably one month, Pizzeria Cavalese will give the guests Pizza Bites for free! Just post any pizzeria menu on your IG (don’t forget to tag them), and you can claim it there 😉
Please do yourself a favour and give this place a visit!
