Hi foodventurers. I’m back for another review. It’s about Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta. It’s an experience about a year ago or so that I would love to share. =)
At the end of 2012, I tried my luck by joining a weekly quiz for the certain period, which was held by Shangri-La Hotel, and surprisingly, I turned out to be one of the weekly winner. As a reward, I got a chance to stay at Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta for two nights at any weekend that I could just pick. Then, because Christmas was pretty close, I decided to stay there on the 22th of December. I could imagine that the hotel would be decorated by Christmas decorations, and yes, I couldn’t be more right! I always love Christmas season, maybe because it’s a holiday season and people will be happy most of the time to celebrate Christmas, New Year and stuff. =)
Heading to the hotel on Friday, I stumbled upon some problems, because at that end of year, it’s a raining season in Jakarta, and flooding was not a rare occasion. Anyway, I safely reached Shangri-La Hotel, and guess what, the lobby and the entire environment had been decorated beautifully to celebrate the upcoming Christmas. Oh, yes, I was ready to have fun!
My check-in start was smooth and the receptionist couldn’t be more polite and welcoming.
After entering our room, we were so happy to see the spacious room and cozy yet luxurious ambiance throughout the entire room. It felt like a second home, instantly.
Fruits on the plate made of glass was a sign of welcoming gesture. It was put on the small table near the big window with 1 comfortable armchair next to it.
The view from the window was just magnificent! You can see Jakarta in a very different point of view.
After some hours of relaxing on the bed watching movies on the tv channel, we decided to walk around the hotel. We didn’t forget to take a shower first. The bathroom was huge, and there were separated bathtub and standing shower that we could choose for our convenience. Some would like to have a good long bathing moment, some would love to have a quick shower. It’s up to you anyway.
On the ground floor, you could find the spacious relaxing park with huge lagoon swimming pool. Oh, I was tempted to have a quick dip, but unfortunately I didn’t bring my swim wear. Oh luck! I could just admire it through my eyes. Anyway, we could see a pony there with a kid riding on top of it! How cute. It was for children I guess, and of course children would love to have a pony ride! I would love to if I were allowed to have a ride. 😀 Besides that, there were a small zoo area, which you could see rabbits and puppies. It was a perfect spot for children, to let them have fun and I really think that could teach children to love animals too!
After a short tour, we decided to go and have some fun at the nearest malls. How convenient, we could even walk to Grand Indonesia or Plaza Indonesia. It was just a 10-15 minutes walk.
Anyway, if you hate to walk outside, you can just dine in at SATOO, B.A.T.S, Shang Palace, Rosso or even Nishimura Restaurant.
Oh, let me introduce you a bit about the restaurants in Shangri-La.
SATOO is a restaurant where you could choose to have a vast variance of buffet, which will certainly indulge your appetite. SATOO offers a complete culinary exploration, Asian or international cuisines. I’m pretty sure you won’t be running out of choices here.
For Chinese cuisine fans, you could just satisfy your taste buds in Shang Palace. Here, you could enjoy all the Chinese signature dishes. I am pretty sure, with the tranquil ambiance and delicious cantonese dishes, you would be extremely satisfied.
Rosso is an italian restaurant which offers you a warm and elegant setting, and as well as delectable and exquisite Italian dishes. If you wish to enjoy authentic signature Italian dishes, Rosso is there for you.
Japanese cuisine has become a very famous choice for Indonesian people. And in Shangri-La Hotel, Nishimura Restaurant is there to please your insatiable food hunger. Every ingredient used in Nishimura is fresh, and the traditional Japanese dishes will just blow your mind. This is no ordinary Japanese restaurant.
B.A.T.S which is a bar and restaurant with New York underground concept, offers you an unforgettable experience with the huge size of Western dishes and great ambiance. Night live entertainment is provided for the patrons and it’s a cool place to hang out.
Okay, let’s go back to my short trip here again. I really hope I do not bore you. 🙂
Oh, let’s jump to my breakfast first! I love talking about food.
For the two-night stay, we also got daily breakfast for two at SATOO. And as explained above, SATOO is a serious buffet! For breakfast, we could just pick everything we wanted. There were plenty of stations with each specialty. Oh I really could just drown myself in food at SATOO, all.morning.long. =D
See my pictures here. Though it weren’t really good-looking, I promise you this: The taste of the food was just amazing! For the standard of a breakfast, this will not disappoint you at all. Instead, it exceeded my expectation. The range of dishes they served was vast, from dim sum, noodles, sushi, salad bar, and lots of others!
The Asian cuisines surely hit the right spot of my tongue. Everything was delicious. And yes, my belly could just explode if the breakfast time wasn’t limited to 10. =D

Anyway, just honestly, it was an amazing two-night-stay! We were so happy we could get this chance to know Shangri-La Hotel in the inside. The room was so fine, with one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever stayed, the most welcoming and professional service and superb breakfast for two mornings in a row!
I couldn’t thank the management of Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta enough for letting me stay here. It was a thoroughly amazing experience.
For families in Jakarta, I really think that you should at least once have a weekend stay at Shangri-La Hotel. It is a perfect local escape from all the stress and the hectic traffic. Shangri-La Hotel has complete and amazing facilities to accommodate your stay.
