In Senopati, there is a special street where you can find all kinds of restaurants. There is also a particular row where you can pass and see a lot of Japanese restaurants standing side by side. I personally haven’t tried them all, but when it comes to sushi, there are 2 restaurants that I really love in that area, and one of the two is Sushi Matsu!
Opening at the beginning of this year, Sushi Matsu is all around Japanese restaurant that sells all types of Japanese cuisine that you know. Say sushi, donburi, ramen, gyoza, tempura, etc. That’s definitely a plus point. It’s a one stop restaurant that can easily cater your craving when it comes to Japanese cuisine.
What I specifically love about Sushi Matsu is their fresh sushi and sashimi ingredients. They use good quality ingredients and it projects well to their final dishes. I personally had a good time here but for a lengthy review, check out below!
# Ika Mentaiyaki (IDR 98k)
Grilled Squid with mentai sauce.
This one was real good. The grilled squid was perfectly grilled, and the squid meat was still tender and not rubbery. The generous mentai sauce was matching well to the squid. Oh, if only squid had lower cholesterol content, I’d had a ton of it! 😉
# Seafood Butter (IDR 138k)
Seafood poached in butter.
# Sashimi Mori Matsu (IDR 168k)
5 kinds of Sashimi.
# Gomoku Hana Sushi (IDR 148k)
5 kinds of Hana Sushi.
Hana sushi is always my fav kind of sushi because the main star is the protein, in this case, the thick salmon slices that were wrapped like flower (hana means flower in Japanese). This was so good!
# Aburi Sushi Mori Matsu (IDR 178k)
Assorted Chef Selection of Aburi Sushi.
Everything aburi/torched with flame is usually good, mostly because of the smoky flavor. The aburi sushi was really good too. But the hana sushi was still the best!
# Bara Chirashi (IDR 138k)
Sushi rice with raw salmon, tuna, white trevally, shrimp, freshwater eel, Japanese omelette, and salmon roe.
If you’re into a more fulfilling meal, this Chirashi is definitely an option. It’s just like sushi, only bigger and more fulfilling. Mixed in some wasabi and soy sauce, voila!
# Gyukatsu Matsuyaki (IDR 158k)
Beef katsu on a hot stone.
I didn’t get to taste this, but when it was served, the gyukatsu was pink inside with golden brown outer layer from the bread crumbs. Best eaten after briefly cooking the slices on the hot stone!
# Truflle Gyudon (IDR 98k)
Beef donburi with truffle, onsen tamago and garlic chips.
Truffle Gyudon is probably the one that can’t go wrong here! The gyu/beef was cooked to perfection, with velvety onsen tamago. The hint of truffle was obvious and it enhanced the fragrant gyu to an even better state! FAVORITE!!
# Dry Ramen with Salmon (IDR 88k)
Grilled ramen noodles with onsen tamago and salmon.
If you fancy a soupless ramen, here this is, a bowl of Dry Ramen with spices. The best part is mixing the onsen tamago, garlic chips and dry ramen to make it slightly emulsified and creamy!
# Dry Ramen with Gyuniku (IDR 83k)
Grilled ramen noodles with onsen tamago and beef.
This dry ramen is with another option, with Gyuniku. Truth to be told, I prefer my dry ramen with Gyuniku! The beef had stronger flavors and it matched well with the creamy noodles.
The best dishes I had were easily the Hana Sushi, Aburi Sushi, Truffle Gyudon and Ika Mentaiyaki!
It’s easy to love them I guess because most of the dishes were made really well, but lemme remind you that it’s best to be enjoyed right away, to ensure freshness! Especially the dry ramen, it needs to be tasted right away!
All in all, Sushi Matsu is definitely a recommended restaurant! The place has everything you need for a Japanese restaurant and I would suggest you take time and visit Sushi Matsu to enjoy their delicious sushi, sashimi and truffle gyudon. Dry ramen is definitely a good idea too! Bring your family for a merrier feast!
