You can ask me a thousand time and I will always have the same answer. Tesate Menteng is always amongst the top of my list when it comes to Indonesian restaurants. And well, you can’t find many competitions that will be as good as Tesate.
With that in mind, I am super excited to tell you that Tesate is introducing new menu selections and I got to be amongst the firsts to try it.
This time around, Tesate is introducing their healthy options such as cold-pressed juice which you can mix yourself (up to 4 choices of fruits) and Fruit Platter. Besides those two, Tesate also launched gorgeous Indonesian delicacies such as Cumi Hitam, Tongseng Sengkel, Rujak Pengantin Salad and Sayur Asem Udang.
Let’s admire all the newbies.
# Cold-Pressed Juice
This newest drink is not only healthy, but liberating. Why? As you might have known it, cold-press is an awesome method of producing juice without destroying all the vitamins and nutrients inside the fruits. Anyway, long story short, while preserving the precious nutrients inside the juice, you get to enjoy every single drop of the juice without any waste. Oh, here, you can mix up some of your fav fruits. The thing is, by having the freedom to choose the fruits, you might occasionally find ‘unique’ taste of the juice. Well, it’s because if you happen to mix up some strange fruits that don’t belong together, you might end up with some weird taste. It’s best if you can ask the waiters’ recommendation.
# Fruit Platter (IDR 75k)
Besides cold-pressed juice, Tesate is now serving fresh Fruit Platter. The portion will include orange, green apple, watermelon and red grapes.
# Sate Ayam Madura (IDR 69k)
Sate or skewer is always one of the signature dishes in Tesate. This time, Tesate launched Sate Ayam Madura which is a portion of juicy chicken skewers in sweet marinade, and generously bathed in sweet peanut sauce. The result was nothing unexpected coming from Tesate, it’s just plain goodness! This was our most favourite dish that day.
# Sayur Asem Udang (IDR 78k)
For those who fancy some tangy sweet and sour soup, you should really give this Sayur Asem a chance. Consisted of crunchy vegetables, prawns, and tamarind broth, this dish was as refreshing as it could be. Perhaps, the only Sayur Asem that can beat this Sayur Asem Udang is coming from its fine-dining counterpart, 1945 in Fairmont Jakarta.
# Rujak Pengantin Salad (IDR 49k)
For a good starter, Rujak Pengantin Salad is a flavourful landmine. It had this light-tasting dressing, with a hint of sourness, perfectly matched with fresh vegetables and egg.
# Cumi Hitam (IDR 121k)
If you love squids, you will love this ‘black squid’. The squids were cooked perfectly, with tender texture. The best thing came from the inside, the squid eggs which brought savouriness to the whole dish. Oh, don’t worry, the squid ink that coated the squids was not fishy at all. It actually brought a more complex flavour to these lovely squids.
# Tongseng Sengkel (IDR 135k)
I loved this Tongseng so much. This was my second favourite, and I’d love to have this again in my next visit. The lamb shank given was huge and generous with plenty of meat. It was deep-fried to bring out the crispy outer layer while maintaining a tender meat inside. The green curry that came along with it was super fragrant, I could smell the aroma from a table away. This Tongseng Sengkel is super recommended.
Those all above are the newest creations that I tried and they all made me fall in love with Tesate all over again.
To sum up, for you who plan to visit Tesate anytime soon, you should definitely order the Tongseng Sengkel, Sate Ayam Madura and the cold-pressed juice/Fruit Platter. Satisfaction is pretty much guaranteed.
