One of the finest moments at the weekend is of course the brunch moments. Brunch itself recently has grown more into some sort of a lifestyle rather than just an obligatory eating activity. With the influence of the western, Sunday brunch has slowly become a norm, or a tradition here. Well, of course, not for everybody, but perhaps the middle to upper class society.
Back to the origin of Brunch, it could actually be quite hazy. I don’t really know but it definitely is a blend of breakfast and lunch. Quoting from a favourite website of mine, Smithsonianmag.com, this enticing word first appeared in print in an 1895 Hunter’s Weekly article. In “Brunch: A Plea,” British author Guy Beringer suggested an alternative to the heavy, post-church Sunday meals in favor of lighter fare served late in the morning. ”Brunch is cheerful, sociable and inciting,” Beringer says. ”It is talk-compelling. It puts you in a good temper, it makes you satisfied with yourself and your fellow beings, it sweeps away the worries and cobwebs of the week.”
Rather than having a history lesson, I sometimes like to just jump into the action, well in this case, the eating part. 😉 Bengawan Restaurant is not a newcomer in serving patrons delicious brunch with undying selections of food and desserts. But this time around, Bengawan tries to hop up a floor and escalate the brunch experience by bringing in a set of scrumptious new things to the stage. Along with the extensive buffet, live grill station, caviar station, seafood and shellfish bar have been added to fulfil patrons’ satisfaction. Not to mention the delectable dessert station, as they have added special spaces for macaron and crepe to let the patrons see the fun process of making it. Truth to be told, regardless of all those mouth-watering additions, I was especially thrilled to enjoy its ultimate cuisines and I am talking about Kobe Beef and Foie Gras!
Interior-wise, Bengawan undoubtedly has one of the nicest minimalist concepts. Love the fact that for brunch, we can even have the natural daylight showering the room and it just give the certain warm and comfort to the whole room.
Why don’t we just go straight to the point and check it out?
One of the main reasons I love Bengawan is always the happy drinks. In this case, fresh juices and some mocktail selections. See all those colours! <3
Warm Pastries are available every weekend to ease your morning hunger as a starter of the feast. I chose to skip it. 😉
Oh, the cheese station is a paradise for cheese lovers. The choices are way too many for me, from cheddar to gouda. Eat it with fruits or just pair it with wine.
The buffet station is as green as ever, with endless dishes to tease your taste buds. I couldn’t even mention one by one!
The Indonesian dishes are always present, and I just honestly love it. But for that day, I opted to leave it out and saved the belly for some super tender kobe beef!
Sushi and sashimi selections are present as well, though limited to the simple choices, I wouldn’t complain at all.
For most people, I am sure the super fun station is this seafood and shellfish station. There are plenty of fresh selections laying on the bed of ice waiting to be picked and enjoyed. The lobster and the fish are seriously tempting. There are even oyster, Alaskan king crab, scallops on the shell, and many others sea yumminess there. I just really had to hold back my desire to have too many of the seafood due to my seafood allergy. 😀
My heart has always stayed true to red meat. This time, it stayed the same. The lamb was lovely, but a bit dry-ish. With a touch of delicious sauce, that wouldn’t be any problems at all.
Never skip the Mexican selections. I made myself a taco with literally every single ingredient available there and I loved it! Can I get an apron now?
Pasta is available and you can choose to have your kind of pasta with your kind of sauce.
Fresh oysters, anybody?
Fun fact: I never miss out sushi in a buffet restaurant (even if it’s bad!)
The Caviar Station hides a lot of goodness in it. For those who fancies it, this little station might be a safe haven. They will serve caviar (sutra classic) and salmon roe on blinis.
As sexy as it looks, yes?
The meaty part is always my favourite, and this one on the plate was lovely.
From the live grill station, I had some fish, baby chicken, crab and lobster. Everything was great! <3
See the lobster? 😉
And let me introduce you this divine goodness, the one and only Kobe Beef! It will not be displayed on the station, but feel free to order it there. Have it with medium doneness and you will have a taste of superlative tenderness. This reminds me of that Buble’s song called, ” Try a Little Tenderness~”
From the crepe station, you can play with the toppings. Real fun for fans of crepe.
The dessert station is just literally next to the cheese station, and that specific station is my paradise. You can find many scrumptious creations, from chocolate pecan pie, chocolate mousse, meringue, and a lot more, from the Indonesian typical cakes to the western types.
And don’t ever miss the Macaron station, though tiny in size, but will easily be the fav amongst girls and children. You can even play mix and match with the flavours.
Assorted cakes. I’m in a flight mode.
Truffles! The matcha truffle was impeccable! Divine goodness.
My brunch here was almost really good. The additional live grill station and seafood bar are really the ones to watch out. And of course, I’m recommending you to have a taste of the Kobe Beef and Lobster. If you fancy something exotic, you might even want to get a bite of the blinis with the caviar!
