Desa Visesa. A Little Slice of Heaven in Ubud!

Ah, writing about Bali sure makes me feel good!
If you’re following my instagram account, you’d know that I went to Bali in June and it was a a blissful vacation.
How was it not?

To tell you everything in one post would be highly impossible, but let me share one of the highlights on my trip: a 2 night stay at Desa Visesa Ubud.

By the time we stayed here, I’d been in Bali for a week or so and it was a second day in Ubud.
We used bike to go literally everywhere, and when I rode my bike to get inside of the big complex, I was in awe. Desa Visesa is huge! And beautiful.

Checking in at the front desk was easy peasy. It was smooth-sailing as the entire staff in the lobby was lovely.
What slightly surprised me was the ritual. Guest that checks in will go through a welcoming ritual involving flower, holy water and rice on forehead. It was said to cleanse the mind and bring peace. It actually was a nice gesture for guests to experience part of the beautiful culture in Bali!

Check in time is at 2 local time, and since we arrived earlier, we were given a voucher for welcome drinks and snack that we can use in Lumbung Restaurant while waiting for our room to be ready. We did just that.
Lumbung Restaurant’s entrance is just across from the lobby. Lumbung Restaurant looked beautiful from the outside. The interior inside didn’t fail to impress us too. The tables were set and arranged nicely. We were greeted with a friendly face and were seated close to the bar. People in Bali were always nice and caring, and it’s pretty much reflected here with all the best and welcoming team. Our welcome drinks and snack came soon after.

Oh, the view from the balcony was amazing. There was a view of lovely jungle-like landscape with a tiny waterfall on the river. The sound of the river was soothing.

When our room was ready, we were informed and a buggy car for 6 was ready to take us to our room. Since the complex is huge, there will always be buggy cars available at the lobby to bring guests to their rooms or villas.

Our room is a Premier Suite. It is the most economic room type here in Desa Visesa but oh, it didn’t disappoint even the slightest. The Premier Suite we got was spacious, beautiful with one of the biggest king beds I’d ever seen. It practically called me to sleep A.S.A.P. And of the bathtub full of roses was so fragrant it’s actually calming my mind. And lastly, the balcony with jungle view was simply lovely.

For amenities, we couldn’t ask for more. What impressed me the most were the 2 french presses each for tea and coffee. There were 3 types of tea that we were provided from black tea to a blend of relaxing tea (which I loved the most) and there was a bottle of ground Balinese coffee.

Oh in case, you’re wondering, the bathroom and bedroom has no permanent partition, but don’t worry since there is an entire curtain that can ensure your privacy when you’re staying with family or friends.

After laying comfortably on the bed for at least an hour (I’m sorry, but the linen was amazing we ended up buying their duvet insert), we decided to walk outside to sight-see. Did I tell you that they have their own paddy fields? Krazy. Oh yes, Desa Visesa is situated amongst 6.5 hectares of lush vegetation and paddy fields, Desa Visesa is really a little Ubud in Ubud. The complex itself has Balinese farmers grown and maintained the paddy fields. There are ducks everywhere (because apparently ducks are very effective and natural pest control. Ha! I bet you don’t know that! I didn’t) around the fields, there are also beautiful huts where you can sit or relax. It’s really a pleasant and peaceful setting. I could stay there all day watching these natural beauties and watching the sun sets.

Buffet-style breakfast is available at Lesung Restaurant, which is located next to the lobby. And believe me when I said that the breakfast was great, because it was! The most fav table is the one by the Lotus Pond. And I was lucky I got that table.

Oh, did you wonder about the swimming pools? Desa Visesa has one alright! The big central pool is located near the lobby. It’s for all guests to use. But anyway, all the villas are equipped with a swimming pool, so technically, Desa Visesa has 67 swimming pools. 😉

One significant benefit (amongst many!) is the experience they could give. Apart from the physical wonderful facilities, Desa Visesa offers guests daily activities, including Permaculture Experience, Yoga (from basic to advance), Nature Trekking, Cycling, Farming, etc. Please note that some are free and some other activities are chargeable. Some activities will need reservation too. Please consult with the guest relation officer in the lobby. 🙂

To summarize, my 2-night stay was simply not enough! I advise you to stay at least 4 nights to experience all that Desa Visesa could offer. The environment here is simply amazing. The relaxing, care-free vibes with serene setting bring an unforgettable experience without pulling away from Balinese tradition and culture. Instead, it actually strengthens the roots by opening up to guests from all around the world, by introducing it proudly to the world.
Staying here is definitely one of the best experiences we could ask for. And I urge you to do the same!

Anyway, we had dinner at Lumbung Restaurant and lunch at Lesung Restaurant too. We’ll write about them too in another posts. But a glimpse of both are as below.
